Russian TV crew comes under sniper fire in Donbass

No one from the crew was hurt.

MOSCOW, May 17 /TASS/. A camera crew of Russia’s NTV channel has come under sniper fire near the Yasinovataya checkpoint on a section of the Donetsk-Gorlovka highway, an NTV correspondent told the Donetsk News Agency from the events’ epicenter.

"After meeting OSCE representatives in Dokuchayevsk, we headed for an industrial zone near the Yasinovataya checkpoint to monitor the situation and make a footage about a ceasefire regime in Donbas. As soon as we arrived at the spot, a sniper opened fire at us from the Ukrainian side and we managed to escape by miracle," he said.

The crew has left the dangerous area and has reached safety by now. No one is hurt.

"We managed to get away with difficulty from the field of fire when the Ukrainian army’s fire abated. We are at a safe distance now," Levin said.

It is not the first time that journalists came under fire in that area. On March 8, the Ukrainian military fired at the employees of the Russia Today television channel; Channel One, Channel 5 as well as the Donetsk News Agency and the RIA Novosti news agency from mortar launchers, anti-aircraft guns and small arms. Luckily, no one was injured.

A camera crew of the Russia TV Channel came under the Ukrainian army’s mortar attack on May 15.
