Ukrainian army shells Lugansk republic twice over past 24 hours

LUGANSK, August 1. /TASS/. The Ukrainian armed forces have shelled the positions of the people’s militia in the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) twice over the past 24 hours, a source in the LPR Defense Ministry told LuganskInformTsentr news agency on Monday.

"About 200 shots were fired at Kalinovo populated locality from the Troitskoye village area with automatic grenade launchers. Later 11 mortar shells were fired from a 82-mm mortar from the Stanitsa Luganskaya direction at the people’s militia positions," the source said.

Members of the Contact Group for the settlement of the situation in eastern Ukraine agreed at a meeting in Minsk on April 29 on a complete ceasefire in Donbass as of April 30. This is the eighth ceasefire agreement since the autumn of 2014. However, the Ukrainian side has repeatedly violated the ceasefire in the people’s militia’s area of responsibility, including by opening fire with mortars and tanks that were to be withdrawn in accordance with the Minsk agreements.
