On April 2, 1996, presidents of Belarus and Russia
signed an agreement on establishment of the Union of Belarus and Russia, and a
year later they signed an agreement On Union of Belarus and Russia.
MINSK, April 2. /TASS/. Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko sent greetings to Russia’s President Vladimir Putin on the Day of Unity of the Belarusian, Russian peoples, marked on April 2, press service of the Belarusian leader said on Saturday.
"Being proud of our achievements and keeping
sacredly the traditions inherited from the older generations, Belarus and
Russia have been implementing successfully the joint integration project,
develop the strategic partnership in all speheres," the greeting reads.
"The modern situation prompts more close coordination of actiions aimed at
providing good living for the peoples of our countries." The Belarusian
president expressed confidence "the focused efforts will give a new
impetus to the overwhelming cooperation between Belarus and Russia."
The integration processes in the Union State of Belarus
and Russia are an example for establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union,
Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko said .
"The Union State has become an example of
integration in the Eurasian format. Innovative experience of the
Belarusian-Russian integration has been vigorously used in the process of
formation of the Eurasian Economic Union."
"The Union State project is unique because we
managed not only to preserve Soviet industrial cooperation, which means
hundreds of thousands of jobs, but also reconsider interaction in the
manufacturing sector in compliance with the modern economic conditions, make
joint products and technologies which are in demand on the market,"
Lukashenko said in the greeting.
"Comprehensive coordination of foreign political
efforts of our countries enables us to efficiently support each other in the
international arena, enhance global stability, and make a contribution to the
establishment of a fair world order. The Belarusian-Russian military
cooperation and interaction in defense industries is a guarantor of security in
our states, an efficient means of fight against modern challenges and
threats."
"Bilateral trade and economic relations are the
foundation of the Union State project. Sustainable and harmonious development
of our complementary economies confirms that the sides prioritize integration
and cooperation, the free movement of goods, services and workforce."
"I sincerely wish your families and friends health,
wellbeing and prosperity," the president wrote. "May peace, accord,
and happiness always reign in our common Belarusian-Russian home."
The press service said, Lukashenko sent greetings to
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, to Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, who is
also head of the Union State’s Cabinet of Ministers, to head of the Russian
parliament’s upper house Valentina Matviyenko, to speaker of the State Duma
Sergei Naryshkin, to Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, to State
Secretary of the Union State Grigory RApota, to leader of the Russian Communist
Party Gennady Zuganov.
