According to the minister, the presence of NATO on the
so-called eastern flank of the alliance is aimed at exerting military and
political pressure on Russia.
ULAANBAATAR, April 14. /TASS/. Moscow will not allow the North Atlantic Alliance to entangle it into a senseless confrontation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during a lecture at the Mongolian Foreign Ministry on Thursday.
"We see an unprecedented military buildup since the
end of the Cold War and the presence of NATO on the so-called eastern flank of
the alliance with the goal of exerting military and political pressure on
Russia for containing it," Lavrov said, stressing that all this comes
along with "a propaganda campaign on demonizing Russia."
NATO "is busy searching for an enemy to assign a
meaning to its further existence." "Russia does not plan and will not
be drawn into a senseless confrontation and is convinced that there is no
reasonable alternative to mutually beneficial all-European cooperation in
security sphere based on the principle of indivisibility of security relying on
the international law," he said.
