DONETSK, August 08. /ITAR-TASS/. Self-defense fighters
in east Ukraine have seized a large amount of combat materiel from the
Ukrainian army grouping encircled in the “southern cauldron,” the local news
agency Novorossiya reported on Thursday, citing the militia.
“Good trophies have been seized in the ‘southern
cauldron.’ Exact numbers are not yet available but sources give the figure of
about 67 pieces of the armor,” the news agency said in a statement.
The east Ukraine militias now have “lots of tanks, 18
Grad multiple launch rocket systems, armed personnel carriers, howitzers,
portable air defense missile systems, infantry fighting vehicles and airborne
combat vehicles. Most of the materiel has been put into operation while the
other part has been sent for repairs,” the Novorossiya news agency reported.
ITAR-TASS has not yet received the confirmation of this
information from other sources.
Pro-Kiev troops and local militias in the eastern
Ukrainian Donetsk and Luhansk regions are involved in fierce clashes as the
Ukrainian armed forces are conducting a military operation to regain control
over the breakaway regions, which on May 11 proclaimed their independence at
local referendums.
During the military operation, Kiev has used armored
vehicles, heavy artillery and attack aviation. Many buildings have been
destroyed and tens of thousands of people have had to flee Ukraine’s embattled
east.

1. The Southern Cauldron reached the final hours and a boiling point has arrived, when all who didn't escape to Russia or break through are being finished off. Yesterday, after a deblocking attack from the outside, surrounded remnants of the brigades, assembled an armed unit with all that could be removed from the cauldron, and rushed for a breakthrough towards Miusinsk, where fighting took place, during which the city passed back and forth. NAF has sought to push back the enemy trying to break to the North-East from Miusinsk to connect to the deblocking group advancing North of Enakievo through Orlovka. At the moment the fighting goes on. The junta is trying to exploit a breakthrough from the cauldron to cut NAF communications with Donetsk. NAF leadership understands this, so yesterday they engaged advancing units, which continued today. The result of these fights will be of operational value. The situation there is complex because a clear front line is not defined and both sides maneuver their reserves to solve their tasks - junta wants to pull out the remains of surrounded brigades and keep control of Miusinsk, NAF is trying to dislodge the junta from Miusinsk and create a new cauldron.
About Pantelejmonovka, Strelkov reported that it was controlled by NAF, although yesterday it was reported that it was surrended. Apparently this place passes back and forth as Miusynsk.
2. According to junta, about 1000 people escaped the cauldron. It is worth recalling that at the time of the encirclement, the group numbered 5.5 -6 thousand men. Counting the escapees to Russia and those returned to Ukraine, in the encirclement of the Souhern Cauldron junta lost 2/3 of its troops. Significant losses were also in technology, partially destroyed in the fighting, partilly captured/transmitted to NAF, partially broken down while retreating because of a shortage of fuel and breakdowns. In the next 1-2 days, NAF will conduct a sweep of remaining enemy groups in the cauldron, which will finally shed light on the amount of trophies and overall losses of the junta in equipment. Information about the 18 captured MLRS "Grad" was confirmed. At this time the total number of trophies is about 70 units. The technical condition is unknown. Junta also announced that during the retreat it destroyed all that it could. The amount of destroyed equipment is unknown.
3. At this time, the army of Novorossiya in addition to sweeping the enemy, is releasing the forces that previously were engaged in the cauldron. The bulk of the troops will move to the direction of Shakhtersk-Snezhnoe, some - to finish off Lughansk airport. The moving of tanks and MLRS battery, will require 2-3 days, and then you can expect attacks on junta positions. In general, the front for NAF has narrowed, and the density of their artillery fire is bound to increase, which at the moment is critical, because only the artillery fist can at this stage help fend off if not all, but most of junta's attacks.
4. Approximate recovery period of the 79th and 24th brigades to fighting status is 2-3 weeks, 72nd - up to one and a half months. Heavy losses in men and equipment will not be so easy to compensate. In general, the battle in the Southern Cauldron is won, Group South is shattered and having suffered heavy losses was forced to break through. Significant losses were suffered by the military transport and combat aircraft of the junta from MANPADS and surface-to-air missle systems. The hole on the border has now become embarrassingly large, which allows to organize the supply of Donetsk and Lugansk Republics through the Southern checkpoint, which used to be in the area of the Southern Cauldron and under the junta.
Ataman Kozitsyn has already managed to issue an order awarding the commander of the group "Prapor" who liberated the border crossing "Dolzhansky."
"For the successful implementation of the combat mission for the release of border crossing Dolzhansky from Ukrainian occupiers, "Prapor" was awarded the highest award - the order of the gold star of the hero of Cossack people "
On August 7, 2014 at 10:30 pm at border crossing Dolzhansky, a flag of the Cossack National Guard was raised. Immediately started a sweep of adjacent territories from American-Banderite armed forces. «Prapor» unit executed an order from General Kozitsyn for the liberation of the border crossing from the forces of occupation, destroyed two armoured vehicles and a large number of enemy troops. At this point, the final sweep and clearing of adjacent areas mined by the Ukrainian military is undertaken.
5. The failure to finish the cauldron remains earlier points to the continuing problems of the army of Novorossiya to ward off the impact of large mechanized formations, the shortage of tanks, anti-tank weapons and artillery. At this stage it does not allow to totally eliminate the enemy's ability to use dual strikes. It is an objective factor which actually prevented the complete defeat of the enemy. But in this form, it is of course a victory, given the huge enemy losses and strategic implications of the enlargement of the border gap.
In General, the coming days will focus on localizing effects of the breakthrough of surrounded remains and stabilization of the front in Shakhtersk-Snezhnoe-Torez. I think by the end of the week, NAF will be quite capable to solve this problem, taking into account the reinforcements freed up after the elimination of southern cauldron.
