On Tuesday, the
Russian Foreign Ministry sent a note to the Ukrainian side with a list of its
violations of the accord.
MOSCOW, March 13.
/TASS/. The termination of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and
Partnership between Russia and Ukraine contradicts the interests of both
countries, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"The document is
in the interests of both our countries, and the dissolution of this document
would not benefit our nations; it is like shooting yourself in the foot,"
the Kremlin spokesman told journalists.
He declined to
comment on the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement following Kiev’s
termination of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership starting
April 1, advising that this question be redirected to the Foreign Ministry.
On Tuesday, the
Russian Foreign Ministry sent a note to the Ukrainian side with a list of its
violations of the accord. On September 24, 2018, Russia received an official
note from Kiev on the non-renewal of the Treaty of Friendship. The Treaty of
Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Ukraine and the Russian
Federation was signed in May 1997 and came into force in April 1999 with a
10-year term and could be automatically prolonged for another 10-year period in
the absence of objections from the parties.
