of the press-conference of Head of the DPR Aleksandr Zakharchenko earlier
today, on January 19.

This morning I have gathered you to say the following. I can assure you that
all the attempts of Ukrainian troops to recapture the airport and take revenge
for the defeat the suffered at our hands last year – and they tried to convince
the population of Ukraine and the global community that they were able to
recapture the new terminal and take the airport under control – so, today I can confidently tell you that all their
attempts failed. Ukrainian army suffered huge losses; the terminal was
subjected to about six attacks of armoured vehicles accompanied by infantry,
and all of them were rebuffed. Also the attempt of a breakthrough of Ukrainian
military to Donetsk failed. Unfortunately, Putilovskiy Bridge was blown up. The
entire column trying to break through was exterminated, and three tank drivers
had been taken prisoners. Ukrainian military were defeated.
I can also state that in the course
of previous weeks we had been trying to tell the OSCE and the entire world that
Ukraine is using the ceasefire for rearmament, regrouping and reinforcement,
but nobody was listening to us. Today we all can see perfectly well that
Ukraine has violated the ceasefire agreement and attacked us. Such rocket and
artillery strikes that we experienced during the last three days we have never
experienced before. Ukraine is shelling residential buildings, peaceful
civilians, women, children and the elderly, even using military aircraft.
You know that yesterday Ukraine
made an air raid on Gorlovka. Even the representative of Ukrainian coordination
center, who was there at the time, got under fire. We do not want to kill
anyone, but the Armed Force of the Republic is able to adequately respond to
all the underhand practices of the enemy. Yesterday as a result of
counter-offensive hostilities started in the outskirts of the town of
Avdeyevka. Locality Peski changed hands twice yesterday, and today the
mopping-up operation there had been completed.
What I also want to emphasize is
the fact that patriotic feelings of the population grew manifold, as, I can
frankly say, I have never before met with such blatant lies in my life:
yesterday the counselor of president Poroshenko said that they would punch us
in the teeth. I can state the following: go hire a coach in boxing and train
the strokes, as you are fighting like a peasant. You do not know how to fight.
You should at first tie your shoe laces, and then go and train, because
otherwise you will either step on your laces or miss our teeth. We have been
going in for sports and we know how to punch you in the teeth. I once more want
to address the global community and the OSCE: if you want to achieve the
ceasefire in Ukraine, than make Kiev follow the Minsk agreements. Thank you, media workers!
