Withdrawal of military hardware in Donetsk region may begin next week — DPR official

The ceasefire could be announced at the Donetsk airport on December 9-10

DONETSK, December 2. /TASS/. Withdrawal of military hardware could start on December 9-10, the speaker of the People’s Council of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) said on Tuesday.

“If we stick to such a dynamics of talks, the withdrawal of heavy equipment, envisaged by the Minsk agreements, may begin on December 9-10,” Andrey Purgin said.

The ceasefire could be announced at the Donetsk airport at 6 p.m. Moscow time (1500 GMT).

“In theory, since 6 p.m. Moscow time the ceasefire could start at the airport, in fact, Ukrainian troops are staying there without food or fire woods, and to take this to them they are forced to break through with fighting,” Purgin said.

The Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine comprising representatives of Ukraine, Russia and the OSCE adopted a memorandum in late September outlining the parameters for the implementation of commitments on the ceasefire in Ukraine laid down in the Minsk Protocol of September 5.

The document comprises nine points, including in particular a ban on the use of all armaments and their withdrawal 15 kilometers from the contact line from each side. The OSCE was tasked with controlling the implementation of memorandum provisions.
