Lavrov: trends of color revolutions and democracy export can be changed

The Russian foreign minister said the Ukrainian conflict also erupted under outside pressure on Kiev

MOSCOW, December 12. /TASS/. Trends of the so-called ‘color revolutions’ and ‘democracy export’ are of negative nature, but it is possible to overcome them, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Friday.
“According to our evaluations, changes of legacy epochs are currently underway as the formation of the more democratic and more just polycentric system of the world order continues,” Lavrov said. “The process is complicated as fresh conflicts add up to old unsettled conflicts.”

“We still have to find the solution to the Ukrainian conflict, which erupted under outside pressure on Kiev with the aim to persuade it to make the decision in favor of the West ignoring the East,” the minister said. “The region of the Middle East and North Africa keeps boiling. The threat of terrorism keeps rising in this region, including by means of the ISIL group’s sharp amplification and transformation into a real terrorist army.”

“A very serious destabilizing factor is still at use in various regions of the world to export democracy, change [political] regimes with the aim of staging ‘color revolutions’,” Lavrov said. “I am positive that such negative trend can and must be reversed.”

The top Russian diplomat added that such task was real “if we all would stand the grounds for the benefit of the mutually respectful dialogue, agree to abstain from containment policies, from belief in self-impeccability, from the practice of unilateral actions and the so-called ‘games with zero result’.”.
