Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline construction to resume in Danish waters January 15

The Danish Energy Agency has received a new schedule from Nord Stream 2 AG for the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in the kingdom's exclusive economic zone, which is a condition for the continuation of the project.

STOCKHOLM, January 7. /TASS/. The Danish Energy Agency has received a new schedule from Nord Stream 2 AG for the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline in the kingdom's exclusive economic zone, which is a condition for the continuation of the project, the ministry told TASS on Thursday.

The company will resume pipe-laying on January 15. "Yesterday, the Danish Energy Agency received a schedule for the further construction of Nord Stream 2. Work on laying the pipeline is scheduled to resume in Danish waters on January 15, 2021," said the head of the press service, Ture Falbe-Hansen.

As the DEA explained, before the resumption of work, Nord Stream 2 AG must submit an adjusted schedule, however the office does not need to approve it. According to information released earlier, the barge Fortuna will begin laying pipes along two parallel branches of Nord Stream 2 in the exclusive economic zone of Denmark. Work on the construction of a 2.6 km section of the gas pipeline in the exclusive economic zone of Germany was completed at the end of December.

The Nord Stream 2 project contemplates the construction of two pipeline strings with a total capacity of 55 bln cubic meters per year from the coast of Russia through the Baltic Sea to Germany. To date, 94% of Nord Stream 2 has been finished. The construction was suspended at the end of 2019 when the Swiss pipe-laying company Allseas stopped work due to US sanctions.
