Donetsk water filtering station cut off electricity after shelling by Ukrainian troops

According to the spokesman for the operations command of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, the station’s personnel are now being evacuated.

DONETSK, March 5. /TASS/. The Donetsk water filtering stations has again been cut off electricity supplies after shelling by Ukrainian troops, a spokesman for the operations command of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) said on Sunday.

"As a result of mortar shelling on Sunday evening, electricity transmission lines in the vicinity of the Donetsk water filtering station were damaged. The station has been cut off electricity supplies again," the Donetsk News Agency quoted him as saying.

According to the spokesman, the station’s personnel are now being evacuated.

Apart from that, shelling by Ukrainian troops cause fire in a private house in the city of Yasinovataya.

The Donetsk filtering station came under extensive shelling by Ukrainian troops overnight to February 24. Eight shells hit the station’s facilities, including a chlorine storehouse, a chlorine pipeline, water reservoirs and a bomb shelter. The station was halted, the personnel were evacuated. The DPR operations command said shelling was conducted from heavy weapons located at Ukrainian positions near Avdeyevka.

The station was idling for nine days because of continued shelling and resumed operation on Saturday. 

Donetsk’s and Kiev’s representatives held a joint inspection of the station. The territory around the station was cleared of mines. However later reports said that Ukrainian troops shelled the territory around the station from 82m and 120mm mortars.

The Donetsk water filtering station is located between the cities of Avdeyevka and Yasinovataya and supplies water to populated localities on both sides of the contact line: Donetsk, Yasinovataya, Vasilyevja and Spartak in the DPR, and Avdeyevka, Krasnogorovka and Verkhnetoretskoye in the Kiev-controlled territory. Over the period of the armed confrontation, the station has come under shelling more than once.
