Russia's envoy to UN rates voting on two draft
resolutions on Syria as "one of the weirdest stage setting" in UN SC
history.
THE UNITED NATIONS, October 8. /TASS/. Russia vetoed a draft resolution banning air strikes on Aleppo and flights of warplanes over the city at the UN Security Council on Saturday. Eleven member countries of the UN Security Council voted for the resolution. Russia and Venezuela rejected it, and two more countries abstained.
"The resolution is not approved as one of the permanent members of the Security Council voted against it," said Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin, who is the presiding officer of the UN SC for October.
Vitaly Churkin also said that voting at the UN Security
Council on two draft resolutions, that were both doomed to failure, has become
of "one of the weirdest stage setting" in the history of the world
organization.
Churkin called the developments in the Security
Council’s hall as impermissible time wasting in the situation when "the
international community should maximally combine its efforts" to resolve
the conflict in Syria.
Along with this, the Russian diplomat assured that
Russia would continue cooperation with all interested international and
regional actors.
