Russia’s Policy of Peace Should Serve as Framework for West – Polish Media

The West should lift all anti-Russian sanctions and support Moscow which could prevent a large-scale conflict in the Middle East, according to an article in Obserwator Polityczny.

Despite all the pressure and hostility Russia has experienced since the Ukrainian crisis broke out last year, Moscow still adheres to its peaceful policy focused on broad international cooperation, the Polish media outlet Obserwator Polityczny reports.

"The West chose hostility and humiliation. It adopted a policy which damages Russia’s interests but without burning bridges. Despite the sanctions, the US uses Russian-made rocket engines for its space launches, and Russian-produced oil and gas are still high in demand across the world," the article read.

The author underscored that the Russian government did not give in to Western provocations and responded to the hostility and sanctions only with a peaceful food imports embargo.

Moscow has been conducting a prudent and responsible policy which would allow restoring the normal relations in the region. However, the focus in these relations would be shifted as Moscow realized it could never rely on the West as a reliable and honest partner, the article pointed out.

The ongoing migrant crisis in Europe proves the need to stop the atrocities conducted by the Islamic State (ISIL) terrorist group in Syria and Iraq.

Taking into account the fact that the West opposes the regime of Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, it has little scope for actions against ISIL in Syria, the author wrote.

In order to fight terrorists in Syria the West should cooperate with Assad’s regime and not with politically unstable rebel and militant formations.

"Russia is the true guarantor to resolve the Syrian crisis," the article explained. "Without Moscow’s guarantees, Assad’s regime and it supporters would not agree a deal with Western-backed forces."

The article continued that if the West would like to use Russia’s support in the Middle East it should offer to Moscow an honest and fair partnership.

"All the sanctions should be immediately removed. The world and the West need Russia more than Russian need them. If Moscow abandons its peaceful efforts in the Middle East the West would be face to face with the problems it provoked with its harmful policy, like it happened in Ukraine," the article claimed.

"If Moscow is ready to act and help the West then it deserves partnership and global respect," it added.

If another Middle East nation collapses part of it would join ISIL. Thus Europe would be flooded not with peaceful refuges but with Islamists ready to destroy our world, the article warned.

The future of the Middle East problem now depends on the role Russia could play.

"Moscow is likely to save the world from the Islamist threat and prevent a collapse in the Middle East. This is why Russia should be supported," the article concluded.
