KCK: PM is after winning elections not peace

Kurdistan Communities Union (KCK) Executive Council Presidency has released a statement in response to the so-called democratization package Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced yesterday. KCK said the package has revealed the fact that the AKP government is not pursuing a policy of solution but rather one of deadlock and that it is after nothing but winning another election.

KCK said they would respond to the package of the AKP government with a declaration to be released next week, adding that this statement has been released to display KCK's attitude towards the package. “The government's treatment of the major problem in the country in line with its election calculations and delaying policies reveals the fact that it has neither an intention nor capacity to come up with a solution to the Kurdish question. Yet, a political work cannot be expected to present solutions on a democratic basis unless it is prepared in a democratic way”, KCK underlined.

Criticizing the AKP government for displaying an unserious attitude in response to the efforts and steps of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan and the Kurdish movement, KCK pointed out that the government has taken no steps within the democratic resolution process because of its intention to create an opportunity for delaying the solution and gaining time until after the elections.

Remarking that AKP tried to make use of the non-conflict environment and the resolution process, to use the Kurdish leader as an instrument and to eliminate the Kurdish liberation movement, KCK said this meant sabotaging the process initiated by Öcalan.

KCK underlined that coming up with a solution to the Kurdish issue could only be achieved by recognizing the national existence of Kurds as a people, their political will and social rights. “The AKP government cannot grant Kurds with some of their rights and deny some others, nor can it determine what the rights of Kurds are”, it underlined.

KCK said that the AKP government avoided taking steps for democratic politics because it thinks this will be the end of its hegemonic mindset and structure. “Which democracy and democratic politics in Turkey could we possibly talk about while seeing a failure to reach an agreement and negotiation for the solution of the main problem of the country?”, KCK added.

The maintenance of the policies of exploitation and cultural genocide goes against the essential process Kurdish people's leader initiated for the achievement of permanent peace and solution, KCK said and added that "Treating the peace process as if there is no will and interlocutor of Kurds and taking steps for show does not only mean displaying an attitude and practice that eliminates of the presence of a peace process, but is also an irresponsibility against the peoples of Turkey".

KCK also criticized the unserious and shallowed attitude the government has displayed towards the Alewi community by giving them promises at first and desisting from these promises later in contemplation of the reactions and objections it will draw. KCK ended its statement by calling on the Kurdish people and democracy forces to enhance the struggle for democratization and a solution to the Kurdish question in response to the AKP government that has wasted the peace process with its delaying policies and election calculations.
